The air con handbook was once written to help entry-level engineers within the layout of air-conditioning structures. it's also suable - in conjuction with primary HVAC&R resourcee fabric - as a senior- or graduate-level textual content for a school direction in HVAC method layout. The guide was once written to fill the void among idea and perform - to bridge the space among real-world layout practices and the theoretical caluclations and analytical approaches or at the layout of elements.

LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design—New Construction). S. Green Building Council. 1 CONTEXT One of the first steps in designing an air-conditioning system is to establish comfort and health criteria for the various spaces in the building. These criteria support the established design intent and should become part of the Owner’s Project Requirements document. Such criteria should include space temperature and humidity, air speed surrounding occupants, mean radiant temperature (MRT), indoor air quality requirements, and sound and vibration levels.
On the other hand, operating costs may be more realistically based upon rentable area. To some degree, a building's air-conditioning system can influence the ratio of rentable area to gross area. While equipment located on the floor under windows may occupy otherwise usable space, this space is almost always included in the rentable area. Thus, no reduction in income results from the use of underwindow units. If air-conditioning equipment to serve each floor is located in a mechanical equipment room on that floor, such space may also be included in the net rentable area.
Thus, paradoxically, even though more total building area and perceptually more valuable space may be used by locating equipment on the tenant floor than by putting it in a rooftop penthouse and using duct risers, the decentralized arrangement could result in more revenue and a better net return for the construction cost investment. 5 Public Utility Tariffs (Rate Schedules) The design engineer must be familiar with the details of the tariffs of the local electric utility (and the gas utility if gas service is contemplated for the building).
